"We know that it is not easy to judge the security of a site just by watching it"

Chris Dixon, development leader of SiteAdvisor de McAfee finished the polls where many users participated in the following way: “We know that it is not easy to judge the security of a site just by watching it, but this is the point, generally the malicious sites are good to transmit an aura of security Without considering the experience or perception, it is not possible trust in the instincts. Another important element that people generally forget is that there are safe sites even in these categories with frequent abuse”.  

SiteAdvisor selected more than three millions of sites to be used in said study of the wrong use the internauts make of the internet. Without realizing it, they surf sites potentially dangerous.  This research is aimed at putting into practice the skills of the Internet surfers and see if they can distinguish between a safe site from a malicious one.

The sites to be used foe the poll dealt with popular categories such as screen savers, free videogames, song lyrics, and programmes to share software.

At the beginning, the polls asked to users to choose the site they consider saber among the offered ones. Then the research continued with the display of various software pages of shared use of files, therefore the users were asked to determine which programmes belonged to a spyware and adware, and which were free from threats.

The results showed by SiteAdvisor revealed that a 97 per cent of the internauts are on the verge of interacting with spyware, adware and malicious and more destructive and potent programmes, like viruses and worms. It was also a smaller part of participants which have received a perfect when realizing by themselves the potential danger which may or may not represent a site.
