PayPal virtual payment system is victim of fraud

This modality of fraud is aimed at those who want to transfer money through the Internet to pay items from sites as eBay. These sites are visited by lots of users who use PayPal, the system of payment on-line to make payment transfer. The fraud is done when the innocent victim make a phone call to number with code from California; this phone call is answered by an elaborated and very persuasive answering machine which tries to get the user’s personal details.

The users have access to this number through spamming e-mails, but these e-mails do not have any link, therefore this point generates confidence on the part of the victim. Once the phone call communication is establish, the recording asks the user to enter the 16-digit number of the credit card to access to the verification of the account; once this step is finished, the data are given to the responsible of this fraud.
 
This happens after a pleasant welcome to the system of the account verification. This kind of fraud is becoming a large-scale problem since as Graham Cluley, the consultant of Sophos says, "Although this number does not belong to United States, PayPal is a worldwide system.  This means that any user is potentially induced to call to a fraudulent number".
