Records company fights against piracy by blocking connections
|
 | British Phonographic Industry (BPI) has requested to Tiscali and Cable and Gíreles Internet providers to restrict access to those users who participate of the illegitimate exchange of material since they are violating the regulations stipulated in the contracts of such providers. |
In the request, BPI asked for the cancellation of 59 accounts who practice piracy of computing material through Tiscali y Cable and Wireless services and this entity also added that the contracts of theses providers stipulate that it is absolutely forbidden to share files with rights reserved.
| Peter Jamieson, President of BPI, showed his discontent due to the lack of decisions of these providers, “We have said many times that it is unacceptable that the Internet providers ignore the many violations to the rights of intellectual property. We have showed Tiscali and Cable and Gíreles evidence that such violations are being done through their services. It is now up to them to solve this problem and disconnect these people” |
BPI efforts against the illegal exchange of Internet services cause 139 cases to be report to the Law in the last three years, 4 of theses cases even ended up in court, however according to the British law, the strategy of individual claims does not seem to be working since piracy is even spreading as it can be seen in the case of theses Internet providers.
