|
 | Anorexia is defined as a food disorder that is common between young girls before the fear of looking obese. Among 5 and 10 millions of girls between 11 and 20 years old suffer from anorexia. This is the most vulnerable age due to the changes that the body expresses in this stage. |
Fashion, the media and the obsession for image care have a lot of influence on teenagers.
When you suffer from this disorder, the thinnest and the most "beautiful" you feel, the least strong you are to work. Besides, your character changes so much that you are left friendless and your family starts going away because you hurt them. Your behavior becomes solitary.
The effects in your health are serious. Between them we can find malnutrition, dehydration, thyroids deficiency, tooth decay, osteoporosis and convulsions. The extreme cases that lead to death affect between the 6 and 10 % of those who suffer from it.
These are some symptoms that should alert us: The person looks very thin, vomits after eating, takes pills to loose weight, makes very strict diets, makes a lot of exercise and constantly talks about weight and food.
| It is also evident if: the person does not eat in front of other people, is obsessed with the scales, looks depressed, suffers from loss of hair or some other problems such as low self-esteem and insecurity. |
