Diverticulosis consists of small pouches protruding from the walls of the digestive tract. During the last years this condition increased between 5 y 10% among the average population. Its appearance is unusual before the age of 40.


1.- In mild cases, it is advisable the ingestion of great amount of fiber. Fiber greatly contributes to an adequate intestinal evacuate.

2.- It is also advisable to drink large quantities of water.

3.- In cases with acute symptoms, the patient must stay in bed and suspend the ingestion of solid food.

4.- In extreme or highly acute cases, surgical procedure would be an option to reduce bowel obstruction.


5.- In case of bleeding, the patient may receive blood transfusions in order to stop the hemorrhage.

6.- In particular cases, the bleeding section of the colon is ablated.

7.- Fiber-based alimentation produces cellulose, semi-cellulose and lignin, which are natural laxatives.

8.- You should avoid including pasta, white bread, boiled rice, flour, cakes, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, tea, cheese, soft drinks, ice-cream, meet, fish and alcohol in your diet.
